MG Motor Gears Up for Electrified Offensive with Excelor EV Nameplate Trademark

MG Motor Gears Up, the local subsidiary of the renowned British automotive brand, is ramping up its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the recent trademark filing for the nameplate “Excelor.” This move signals the brand’s commitment to bolstering its presence in the rapidly growing EV market, adding a third fully electric model to its portfolio after the successful ZS EV and the recently unveiled Comet EV.

The Excelor EV nameplate, trademarked under the “Motor vehicles and parts thereof” category, is expected to make its debut in the coming years, further diversifying MG Motor’s electric offering and catering to the evolving needs of Indian consumers seeking sustainable mobility solutions.

“MG Motor India is leaving no stone unturned in its endeavor to provide cutting-edge electric vehicles that resonate with the aspirations of the modern Indian consumer,” said Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director of MG Motor India. “The Excelor EV nameplate trademarking is a testament to our commitment to driving the EV revolution in the country.”

While specific details about the Excelor EV remain scarce, industry analysts speculate that the vehicle could be positioned as a premium electric offering, potentially targeting the growing demand for upscale EVs in the Indian market.

“With the Excelor EV, MG Motor India could be eyeing a slice of the premium EV segment, which is currently dominated by luxury brands,” said Aditya Jairaj, an automotive analyst at SIAM Insights. “By offering a feature-rich and technologically advanced EV at a relatively accessible price point, MG could disrupt the market and attract a broader customer base.”

MG Motor India’s foray into the EV space began with the launch of the ZS EV in 2020, a fully electric SUV that quickly gained popularity among Indian consumers for its attractive pricing, robust features, and impressive driving range. Building on this success, the company recently unveiled the Comet EV, a compact electric hatchback aimed at urban dwellers seeking an affordable and sustainable mobility solution.

The addition of the Excelor EV to MG Motor India’s lineup is expected to further solidify the brand’s position as a frontrunner in the country’s burgeoning EV market, which is projected to witness exponential growth in the coming years driven by favorable government policies, rising environmental consciousness, and declining battery costs.

“MG Motor India’s commitment to expanding its EV portfolio is a strategic move that aligns with the government’s vision of promoting electric mobility and reducing carbon emissions,” remarked Abhishek Pandey, a senior researcher at the Centre for Automotive Research and Electrification (CARE). “By offering a diverse range of EVs catering to different consumer segments, MG is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.”
