Virtus Motors Launches Affordable Alpha A, Alpha I Electric Cycles Starting at Rs 15,999

Virtus Motors Launches Affordable Alpha A and Alpha I join Virtus Motors’ existing Alpha S electric cycle launched last year. The Alpha A caters to younger audiences like students and teens, while the Alpha I targets individual commuters in urban areas.

Indian electric vehicle startup Virtus Motors has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of two new electric cycles – Alpha A and Alpha I. Priced at just Rs 15,999 onwards, the new e-cycles aim to make electric mobility more affordable and accessible in India.

At the launch event in New Delhi, Virtus Motors founder Mr. Rakesh Gupta said, “With Alpha A and Alpha I, we are bringing our mission of carbon-free mobility to the masses. Both models offer impressive features and range that too at extremely affordable pricing starting under Rs 16,000.”

Virtus has introduced a portable battery pack option for added convenience with the new e-cycles. The removable batteries can be charged at home separately from the cycle.

Let’s look at the key features and specifications of the all-new Alpha A and Alpha I electric cycles:

Alpha A Electric Cycle:

Priced at Rs 15,999, the Alpha A features a minimalist and functional design perfect for younger audiences. The Alpha A comes with a 250W hub motor offering a top speed of 25 km/h and a maximum range of 25 km per charge.

The cycle has a sturdy steel frame with adjustable seat height and a removable Li-ion battery rated for 300 charge cycles. Charging the battery fully takes around 4-5 hours. The Alpha A’s portable battery weighs just 1.5kg for easy carrying.

Braking on the Alpha A is handled by front and rear drum brakes. It has 14-inch wheels and comes with a side stand for parking support. The cycle is backed by a 1-year warranty on parts.

Alpha I Electric Cycle:

With a price of Rs 18,999, the Alpha I targets urban commuters needing an affordable e-cycle for short daily trips. The Alpha I is equipped with a 350W rear hub motor allowing a top speed of 25 km/h and a maximum range per charge of 50 km.

The Alpha I features a lightweight aluminum alloy frame and adjustable seat. It is fitted with a 48V, 7Ah detachable Li-ion battery that delivers around 500 charge cycles. A full charge takes 4-6 hours.

Braking duties are handled by front and rear disc brakes on the Alpha I. The cycle has 16-inch wheels with double-walled rims and tread tires. It comes with a 1-year warranty on parts.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Gupta explained how Virtus was able to price the Alpha A and Alpha I so competitively:

“We have strategically localized over 60% of components in India itself. This has helped us reduce costs drastically compared to importing fully-built e-cycles. Our scales of localization will only increase further as production expands.”

Virtus Motors is offering attractive EMI plans starting at Rs 1,416 per month for easy financing options. Both the Alpha A and Alpha I will be available for purchase on the company’s website and at dealer outlets across major cities.

The launch boosts India’s fledgling but fast-growing electric cycle market. Virtus Motors is betting on rising fuel prices and eco-consciousness among urban consumers to drive the adoption of its affordable and smart electric cycles.
