Simple Energy Launches More Affordable Dot One Electric Scooter

Indian EV startup Simple Energy Launches More Affordable Dot One Electric Scooter called the Simple Dot One. Priced at Rs 1.10 lakh, the Dot One is around Rs 40,000 cheaper than the premium Simple One electric scooter.

The company aims to target a wider audience with the value-focused Dot One amid slowing demand for expensive electric two-wheelers.

Simple Energy founder Suhas Rajkumar said, “The Dot One offers 70% of Simple One’s performance at 50% of the price. This will make our scooters more accessible to a large number of customers focused on value.”

Affordability Focus

The Simple Dot One comes with a smaller battery pack of 2.5 kWh providing a range of 200 km on a single charge. It has a top speed of 95 kmph thanks to its 4.5 BHP electric motor. The more premium Simple One packs a 4.8 kWh battery delivering a 236 km range.

While range and speed are lower, the Dot One offers decent performance for everyday urban commuting needs. The electric scooter supports fast charging like the Simple One.

The Dot One is equipped with features like a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation assist, keyless access, and multiple ride modes. However, it misses out on premium hardware like onboard navigation and tire pressure monitoring systems offered in the One.

Experts say the Dot One’s aggressive pricing makes it among the most affordable high-speed electric scooters in the market currently. The value positioning could help Simple Energy target mass-market buyers focused on affordability.

“The Dot One’s pricing is a clever strategic move by Simple Energy to make EVs more affordable. This could give them an edge over rivals in an extremely competitive segment,” said Sameer Kalra, Equity Research Analyst, at Target Investing.

Slowing Demand for Premium EVs

The launch of the affordable Dot One comes at a time when high prices are impacting EV two-wheeler sales in India. Most electric scooters today are priced above Rs 1 lakh limiting adoption by middle-class buyers.

Simple Energy is aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for more affordable EVs that deliver value for money. The startup claims to have received over 30,000 bookings for the Dot One reflecting strong consumer interest.

“The Dot One offers great value to consumers looking for their first electric scooter. We are committed to accelerating EV adoption through smart products for every budget”, added Suhas Rajkumar.
